Problem:
E-Letters is a simple portal used by the employees a few times in a year. The volume of usage is very high during the few days when a companywide bonus or incentive is announced.
The current UI is not intuitive and is painful to use. It does not have enough feedback and on an average almost 3 out of 5 users abandon it to come back to it after a day or two. This creates frustration, and anxiety as employees are eagerly awaiting their bonus or promotion letter and they are curious to know the result instantly.
Solution:
Provide a simple one screen UI where user's login details are cached and can directly open the page. The Inbox features the new letters and Archives holds the past letters.
Another suggestion at the overall system setup was to mirror more servers for first few days to allow easy access to the application.
Some of these letters are more than 2MB in size and hence informing the users about it upfront gives them a cue as to how much time, it is going to take to download the files.
